Esencia

Fusing a two-centuries-old rustic cottage with sleek contemporary add-ons, the building housing this restaurant has won architecture awards. And the theme of fusion continues in the cuisine, combining traditional Canarian flavours with innovative cooking methods and a contemporary twist. Produce is also fresh and seasonal, with meat and fish sourced directly from the island, and the hilltop sea views make for a particularly romantic setting.

La Romantica

With a name like La Romantica, it comes as no surprise that this is indeed one of the more couples-friendly restaurants on the island. Large picture windows provide lovely views over Playa Blanca beach and as far as neighbouring Tenerife. Dishes are hearty and tasty, as well as carefully presented, with a good selection of seafood and steak. Food can be accompanied by a choice of Lanzarote wine, served in generously large glasses. Repeat customers are a common sight.

El Navarro

A real favourite with visitors to the island, El Navarro is a small, elegant restaurant located in the popular resort of Costa Teguise. Though it may not look like much from the outside, the atmosphere is warm, friendly and intimate, offering beautifully presented dishes made with local ingredients. Being so popular, El Navarro books up fast, so remember to call in advance to avoid disappointment.

Restaurante Balague

Originally conceived by renowned Lanzarote architect César Manrique (and once owned by actor Omar Sharif) the Lagomar is a magical complex with an Arabian Nights flavour set into the surrounding volcanic rock. And nestled among it all is one of the island’s best restaurants, serving an outstanding menu of Mediterranean-inspired cooking in genuinely unique surroundings. Guests can also dine on an alfresco terrace overlooking a lake illuminated by candlelight – unsurprisingly, it’s a popular venue for romancing couples and even for weddings.

Mirador de las Salinas

As the name suggests, this relatively remote restaurant offers stunning views over Janubio’s salt pans (salinas) and lagoon. Views from the terrace are particularly impressive – and romantic – while the service is excellent and the food fresh and tasty. The menu specialises in seafood, with number of rice-based dishes such as paella and different types of risotto. Salt comes from the neighbouring flats, and you can even buy some as a souvenir to take home.

Blue Note Lanzarote

As you might guess from the name, the Blue Note has a distinctively jazzy feel, with low lighting and regular live music to help set the right atmosphere. Its marina-front setting also adds to the romantic mood, while outstanding food and friendly service complete an excellent dining experience. Order a cocktail and the bartender will mix it at your table. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, too.
