The pub-and-tavern scene in the Phoenix area will certainly be a place where you can don your finest boots and Stetson hats, but you’ll also find some interesting breweries and traditional Irish pubs.

Many Phoenix pubs have outdoor dining to take advantage of the mild winter weather in the Valley of the Sun, and pub food in Phoenix will more than likely include dishes like tacos and burgers with a side of guac – but make sure to look for some traditional Irish pub food during your visit, too.

Craft beer, wine and fancy grilled cheese sammies

Gastropub, Pub, North American

With seven locations across the Phoenix valley, the popular Whining Pig serves up a selection of over 125 craft beers, along with some fun pub games and grub like gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and charcuterie plates. The downtown location has a happy hour from 1pm to 8pm.

Find a new brew in Surprise

Craft Ale Bar, Pub, Restaurant, North American

Head for the West Valley of Phoenix, where you’ll find a 10-barrel method brewery in the town of Surprise. This is where these local specialty brews are made and where you can enjoy a tasting flight, a wood-fired pizza or a meal from their kitchen. Sit on the patio, or dine inside. This is a fantastic place to grab a brew after hiking the White Tank Mountain Regional Park.

Located on Scottsdale’s Main Street, the Rusty Spur Saloon touts that they are the town’s last real cowboy saloon. They’ve been around for over 60 years, and the building, originally a bank, is a historical landmark. Inside, you’ll find pub food (try a burger) served for lunch and into the night. They pour everything from beer to aged bourbon. While it may be a cowboy saloon, you’ll find everyone here enjoying the live music seven days and nights a week.

Enjoy researched beer and great pub grub

Pub, Pub Grub

In Mesa, you’ll find an unusual pub with unusually great food. The Beer Research Institute (BRI) is hyperlocal, and, like many other good ideas, it started in the garage of one of the owners. With beer on tap with names like Mesa City Limits, Not Today, Putin! and some creative flights, this place draws beer connoisseurs. Hungry? You’re in luck because BRI offers delicious pub grub such as Meat Candy, candied bacon with the zesty taste of siracha, or gourmet burgers with hand-cut fries. They have salads and desserts, too.

Go Irish in downtown Phoenix

Bar, Craft Ale Bar, Pub, Restaurant, Irish

Have a little Irish pub grub with your football watching at Seamus McCaffrey’s in downtown Phoenix. Enjoy traditional foods such as corned beef and cabbage, fish and chips and Irish beef stew. But locals swear by the “ultimate breakfast burrito”, which is served all day. They pour a great selection of craft beer, including Irish brands and local favorites, as well as wines and cocktails.

Head to Cave Creek for a BBQ, country music and a little wild-west history

Bar, Pub, Restaurant, North American

Harold’s in Cave Creek has been a haunt for western movie stars, locals and visitors for over 60 years. Opened as the Corral Bar in 1935, the huge tavern served workers building Bartlett Dam. The name changed when a local, Harold Gavagan, bought the business. Harold’s is known for western music, gatherings of Pittsburgh Steelers fans, great on-site BBQs and mouth-watering steaks.
