While Menorca isn’t known for glitzy five-star hotels, luxury needn’t be defined by private butlers, chartered yachts and monogrammed bathrobes. It can be in more modest details, such as personalised service, great design and imaginative dining. Here’s our selection of upmarket hotels on Menorca – all bookable with Culture Trip.

La Quinta Menorca by Portblue Boutique

This adults-only retreat is one of the few five-star hotels on Menorca. A spot on the scenic southwest coast puts it within easy walking distance of some great beaches, a pretty marina and plenty of dining options. Though with a superb swimming pool area, excellent on-site dining and one of the best wellness centres on the island, there’s a good chance you’ll not want to venture much beyond the hotel.

Insotel Punta Prima Prestige Suites and Spa

Hotel, Luxury

This Insotel feels less like a hotel and more an exclusive gated community, complete with all the facilities for a great holiday. The 62 suites are spread over an impressive complex on the edge of the Punta Prima beach resort. It’s great for families, with a child-friendly pool (with water cannons and slides) and kids’ clubs from tots to teens. A top spa and numerous sporting options also mean you can be as lazy or active as you like.

Experimental Menorca

Few hotels capture the quirky bohemian spirit of the island as well as Experimental Menorca. This once-dilapidated 19th-century finca (farmhouse) has been reborn as artfully eye-pleasing luxury lodgings. A grandly Neoclassical facade impresses on arrival, while the rest of the complex is a masterclass in creative design-savvy chic. A big central pool is encircled by an abundance of day beds, while some rooms have their own pool for a private dip. There are plenty of spa and wellness opportunities, and the on-site dining makes the most of homegrown and island produce.

Fontenille Menorca

Fontenille is not a singular property but a pair of individual buildings a few kilometres apart, each with a unique history and a distinctive experience. Santa Ponsa is a majestic, 17th-century palace set in lush Arabian gardens with colonial-style architecture. Torre Vella is a whitewashed finca set in vast grounds that stretch down to the coast. Between them, they offer some of the finest spa facilities, accommodation and gastronomy, plus a fascinating window into the island’s past.

Sant Joan de Binissaida, Es Castell

Boutique Hotel

Although just a 10-minute drive from Mahón centre, this hotel feels as remote as any on the island. Moorish roots are on display in terraced gardens and waterways, while the main building is a tastefully restored 18th-century farmhouse. You’ll find Menorcan purebred sheep and horses grazing around the grounds, which also connect to a network of hiking trails. Lounge in the sun with a drink from the poolside bar, before dinner at Ses Forquilles restaurant – considered one of the finest in the area.

Hotel Can Faustino

This former 16th-century palace is hands-down one of the most luxurious places to stay on the island. Service is attentive and personalised, while the hotel rooms are brimming with high-end amenities, and the restaurant is world-class. A luxe spa is housed in an ancient grotto, and the outdoor pool is heated year-round. Positioned on the edge of Ciutadella’s beautiful Old Town with views over the harbour, the setting also scores top marks.

Hotel Torralbenc

Boutique Hotel

This luxury hotel, converted from a traditional 19th-century Menorcan farmstead, is one of the island’s finest examples of boutique rustic-chic. The property is set in a series of low-rise whitewashed buildings with plenty of wonderful vantage points overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in the distance – one from the stylish infinity-edge pool that also features countryside panoramas. For a real treat, and maximum privacy, book the Pool Cottage, which has a private plunge pool in a secluded garden.

Meliá Cala Galdana

Resort, Chain Hotel

Set into limestone cliffs overlooking the turquoise waters of Cala Galdana bay, this upscale hotel has a setting to take your breath away. Each of the 347 rooms benefits from those stunning vistas, together with access to three hotel restaurants and infinity-edge pool. Service and dining are also top-notch, plus a summer kids’ club takes care of the little ones while the grown-ups can luxuriate in sea-view jacuzzis.

Jardí de ses Bruixes

Boutique Hotel

Jardí de ses Bruixes (meaning Dandelion Garden) occupies a traditional townhouse right in the centre of the capital’s pretty Old Town. It combines original architectural details with a warm, inviting atmosphere and stylish decor. The 16 rooms are bright and beautifully finished, fusing contemporary minimalism with traditional tiling and original antiques. All rooms feature wood-burning stoves for snug winter evenings. You can also take breakfast in the courtyard under orange trees, enjoy a soak in the luxurious basement spa or climb to the lookout tower with 360-degree vistas over the picturesque surroundings.

ARTIEM Audax

Spa Hotel

Set on Cala Galdana, this swish, adults-only hotel has spectacular views over this most picturesque cove. ARTIEM Audax also has one of the most impressive spas on Menorca, if not the Balearics, together with a fabulous rooftop infinity pool. Super eco-friendly policies and practices also make this one of the greenest hotels on the island.

Barceló Hamilton Menorca

Resort, Chain Hotel

This upscale, child-free resort hotel certainly scores high on style, with a swish contemporary finish adding to the chilled, grown-up vibe throughout. There are two outdoor swimming pools, one of which is heated over the winter months, and a deluxe underground spa featuring the Menorcan wine experience, which utilises grape products. It’s the rooftop terrace, however, that really steals the show with six hot tubs and views over the Bay of Mahón, plus the bonus of some spectacular sunsets to really set a romantic mood.
