Georgians love to eat, drink and have fun with their friends, even on weekdays when they have to wake up the next morning to go to work. Therefore, Tbilisi has a diverse scene of cafés, restaurants and, of course, bars.

A typical Friday night for many people means spending hours at a small, cozy bar chatting with friends or someone at the next table. So if you are new in town and don’t know where to go, here’s a list of the best bars in which locals love to relax while sipping their favorite drink.

Bauhaus

Bar, Fast Food, Georgian

Located in Dedaena Park, this open-space bar is the best place to escape the summer heat in the evenings. The budget-friendly bar serves local draft and bottled beer, a local spirit called chacha, and cocktails, to name a few. Moreover, if you get hungry, they serve sandwiches, soups, and cheese sticks. But they don’t have a food menu; every waiter is happy to list what they offer. Occasionally, they organize various events such as a movie screening, live music, or barbeque days.

Black Dog Bar

Bar, American, Pub Grub, Georgian

Black Dog Bar is the first self-declared pet-friendly bar in town that opened only in 2016. It’s also one of the few smoke-free bars in the area. It serves craft beer, drinks, and non-Georgian food and hosts rock, reggae, and jazz evenings.

Warszawa

Bar, Fast Food, Pub Grub

Warszawa, located at the very center (Freedom Square), is another budget-friendly bar for quick drinks and is very famous among locals. Its walls are decorated with old Georgian and Polish newspapers, giving the venue a special touch. The menu both for drink and food is limited but very cheap. They serve chacha, vodka, beer and wine along with non-alcoholic beverages.

The bar itself is tiny but has tables and chairs on the ground floor. However, most people prefer to stand either in the bar or outside to socialize.

Chacha Room

Bar, Georgian, Pub Grub

The recently opened Chacha Room dedicates itself to the local spirit chacha—a strong and clear drink whose alcoholic percentage ranges between 40% to 65% and is made from grape pomace. The bar offers a variety of chacha, including mango, cranberry, cornelian cherry, blackberry, lime, raspberry, and pomegranate. Additionally, they have homemade vegetable marinades, seasonal compote drinks, chacha cocktails, and various food options.

Rooms Hotel Bar

Restaurant, Hotel Restaurant, Bar, European

For a fancier evening, head towards the bar at Rooms Hotel Tbilisi. They have both indoor and outdoor seating possibilities, along with a variety of food and drinks. The venue is distinguished by its design, relaxed vibe and friendly atmosphere.

Lolita

Bar, European, Georgian, Vegetarian, Pub Grub

Across from the Rooms Hotel Tbilisi, there’s another fancy yet trendy bar called Lolita. The ground floor of a pseudo-Gothic house features an open-air bar, kitchen, and outdoor seating. However, there are indoor tables available too. The bar serves cocktails, local wine, homemade lemonade, feijoa chacha, and various meals.

Drunk Owl Bar

Bar, European, Georgian, Pub Grub

Located in Old Town, Drunk Owl Bar is a great place to start your evening on a budget and move to a club afterward. The vast variety of drinks and live music on Fridays and weekends create a lovely atmosphere and a great place to be.

PAM Club

Bar, Mexican, American, European, Pub Grub

PAM Club describes itself as “an experimental space in which arts collide to form new patterns.” The idea of the founders was to create a bizarre, weird and psychedelic space to give people’s creativity support and a boost. It’s a fun place to be.

Flashback

Bar, European, Georgian, Pub Grub

Flashback is another centrally located bar to start off your evening with a good variety of drinks and food to stop your hunger. Additionally, Flashback offers promotional days; for instance, every Tuesday is a beer day, meaning that you get free potato wedges for every five beers.

Fabrika

Cafe, Pastry Shop, Bar, Cocktail Bar, European, Pastries

A former Soviet sewing factory has been repurposed into a multifunctional space featuring bars, a hostel, and co-working area, to name a few. A relatively new venue in Tbilisi, Fabrika has quickly become a trendy and cool place to spend a Friday or Saturday evening. What makes Fabrika so popular is its minimalist yet very modern and artsy design, seen both inside and outside the venue.

Amodi

Bar, Cafe, Fast Food, Pub Grub, Georgian

Amodi · ამოდი, Tbilisi
Amodi in Georgian means to “come upstairs,” which perfectly suits the bar. Situated in Old Town, the pathway to the bar leads you through narrow cobblestone streets and up to the hill. However, the view over Rike Park and the Mtkvari River is absolutely worth a small hike. With a good selection of drinks and food, Amodi is a great place to hang out, organize a party or just enjoy the view!
