Teesalon Madame Wu

A traditional Chinese tea set

Regarded as the finest tearoom in Linz, Teesalon Madame Wu is a cafe with oriental features. They offer an extensive variety of high-quality, speciality teas alongside traditional Chinese dumplings. In this unique place, you can take part in a traditional Chinese ceremony, which is usually seen in weddings. The cafe has a serene ambience and, if you’re lucky, you could catch a classical pianist playing.

Inside Café Traxlmayr

Café Traxlmayr has the feel of a Viennese coffee house, smartly dressed with chandeliers, parquet flooring and with tuxedo-clad waiters. The menu is equally traditional, featuring Austrian breakfasts (Semmel bread rolls, boiled eggs, cold meats, cheeses and a range of spreads and jams and a choice of tea or coffee).

Lentos Cafe

There’s nothing like a heart-warming latte as you get out of the New York cold

Lentos Cafe veers towards a more contemporary and cosmopolitan cafe experience, in contrast to the traditional Austrian coffee houses. Known for its edgy and artsy coffees and appealing to fair-trade coffee lovers, this is one of the most popular places to kick back and enjoy great coffee.

Friedlieb und Töchter

Cake is a must-have at this cafe

One for the sweet-toothed visitors, Friedlieb und Töchter bakes a variety of delicious cakes and pastries fresh every day. The interior of the cafe is both kitsch and modern, with vintage twists. Be sure to sample their coffee, which is often recommended as being the best espresso in Linz.

Café Meier

This is a local cafe with a relaxed, no-nonsense vibe. Brunch is served until 3 pm and includes spreads of semmel rolls (a traditional Austrian baked bread), butter, jam, honey, boiled eggs and omelettes, cheese, ham, orange juice and an optional glass of Prosecco. There is even a large outdoor area that’s perfect for al fresco eating on sunny days.

Gerberei

This cosy cafe has a relaxed atmosphere that attracts a diverse crowd of both locals and tourists alike. Brunch options include flatbreads filled with ham or cheese and eintopf (meat and vegetable hotpot). Be sure to sample their coffee or, if you are a German speaker, why not enrol in one of their barista courses?

Dachcafe

Enjoy a boiled egg for brunch

This rooftop cafe has great views of the city and offers a range of breakfast and brunch options. As well as the traditional Austrian breakfast, there are also various toasted sandwiches, salads and, if you’re particularly hungry, pizza. The drinks menu includes every coffee you could dream of, including some with intriguing names that would be perfect for colder weather, such as Kaffee Diplomat, which is laced with egg liqueur and topped with cream or the Caffe Coretto, an espresso spiked with grappa.

Café Viele Leute

Café Viele Leute (translation: cafe for many people) is a welcoming establishment serving fantastic freshly brewed coffee, homemade pastries and various small delicious dishes. Another draw is that they have designed their cafe in such a way that allows accessibility for disabled people (both employees and guests) – an innovation made in collaboration with Schön für Seniors, a charity that helps elderly disadvantaged people.

Café Volksgarten

Breakfast brunch

Café Volksgarten is one of the best places in Linz for breakfast or brunch, with a wide selection of dishes available, including a traditional Austrian breakfast (semmel rolls, jam, cheeses, cold meats and your choice of drink). The cafe is located on the ground floor of the Music Theater, directly on the picturesque Volksgarten and there is a large outdoor seating area for the summer months.

Café Central

Brunch pancakes

The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet for just €11.50 per person (€6.50 for children under 10; free for children under five) at Café Central will satisfy anyone with a rumbling belly. Available every Saturday, it is a spread of bread, jams, various cheeses, cold meats and eggs. Be sure to pair your meal with a strong cup of coffee or freshly squeezed orange juice. There is also an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your brunch on a sunny day.
