With its flower-decked balconies, charming timbered houses, and quaint little streets, it’s no wonder Hunspach in France has been named the best village in the country.
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway, then look no further than Hunspach in France. The town – with just 650 residents – is the new gem in France’s tourism crown, and at less than an hour away from Strasbourg, it’s fairly easy to get to.

With its picturesque scenery and stunning vineyards, it’s no wonder the French say it is their prettiest and “most beloved” village after submitting votes to the France 3 TV show Le Village Préféré des Français in early July.

After being hit hard by the recent Coronavirus pandemic, it’s no surprise the news is welcome to locals, who are expected to see an increase in tourism to the area.

The town is a former Swedish settlement, and its close proximity to the historically shifting German border means place names are more Germanic sounding. Signs are also written in French and German.
The Alsatian region is often considered one of the most beautiful in France, so much so that the nearby towns of Eguisheim and Kaysersberg have both won the honour in previous years.
Other towns to make the list included Les Anses-d’Arlet, near Martinique, in second place, and Ménerbes, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, in third place. They are followed by Pont-Aven, in Brittany, and Pierrefonds, in the Picardy region, which came in fifth place.
