Step back in time at this rental home on the grounds of an 18th-century Georgian stone rectory-turned-guesthouse, in the heart of the Wexford countryside. The coach house, which was restored in 1999, contains a spread of features, with exposed stone walls, antique furnishings and an open fireplace among the mix. The attractive home splits into two sections that can accommodate three to four guests using just one bedroom – or, as a whole, it can sleep up to eight. If you’re looking for an Instagrammable façade, this smart Georgian property should satisfy. Arlington House has been converted into nine dreamy, one-bedroom suites, which sleep up to eight. There are also two lodges off from the main house. All of the suites have names with a local connection, with one named after Waterford resident Dorothy Jordan who went on to become feted as one of the greatest comic actresses of her day, and later became the long-term royal mistress of King William IV. This makes for a regal place to base yourself just a 15-minute walk from the centre of town.

There is a mix of self-catering holiday homes next to the 18th-century stately home – which now operates as a four-star hotel – offering two- and three-bedroom houses that are modern yet homely, with an open fire and warm interior. There are fully equipped kitchens, but you can also mosey over to Faithlegg House, where the Roseville Rooms restaurant boasts two AA rosettes.
Macs Townhouse

A hot-pink door offers a hint of what you’ll find inside Macs Townhouse, a grey-hued property in the pretty harbour town of Dungarvan that’s home to six hipster-chic apartments. A retro theme runs throughout, with 60s-inspired furnishings, exposed-brick walls and filament-style bulbs. The townhouse used to be Macs Hotel, which was one of the oldest hotels in Dungarvan before it burnt down in 1921; the current building underwent a major refit in 2000.
