The Best Group Trips to Take With Your Family
Want to get the family together in style? Our small-group trips are perfect for bringing everyone together to make memories that last generations. Here is our selection of the best group tours to take with your family.
Before we get started, it’s worth noting that our trips have a minimum age requirement of 25, so these itineraries are aimed at grown-up families. If you want a trip with younger travellers, you’ll need to book a private trip – you can have the exact same itinerary, you just need to chat to our team first!
Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands by Train
Fond memories of travelling by train as a kid? This trip will get you very nostalgic, as we explore the most beautiful corners of Scotland via some of the UK’s most stunning rail routes. We’ll actually start in London, taking the sleeper train north to Fort William, waking up to private cabin views of the rugged Scottish countryside. In Fort William you’ll get an amazing whisky-tasting experience – big selling point for the dads out there – before embarking on a trip to Mallaig the next morning. This isn’t any old journey, however, as we hop onboard the charming old Jacobite steam train, immortalised as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movies. We’ll cross the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct on our journey west, which is full of spectacular views of mountains, forests and lochs. We’ll explore the Isle of Skye, Inverness and the Cairngorms National Park before eventually rounding off the trip in the capital, Edinburgh. Who’s having haggis and who’s going for the deep fried Mars bar, then?

Icons of China by Train
There’s something extra special about ticking off real bucket-list moments with your closest kin, which is why our China Rail Trip makes for an incredible family getaway. Our 10-day itinerary takes the all-stars approach to exploring China, starting with the many famous sights of the capital, Beijing. Having visited Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and tried tai-chi at the Temple of Heaven, we’ll head out to Badaling via high-speed rail. From there you’ll get to go on two incredible walks along the Great Wall of China, first at sunset and then again at sunrise the next morning. We’ll get back on the tracks to explore the amazing old town of Pingyao, before continuing on to Xi’an, home to the famous Terracotta Warriors. You’ll get up close to this surreal army of statues, as well as having guided tours of the city by bike and on foot. Our final call is in Shanghai, the country’s largest city, where you’ll get to take a breakfast tour of the city, do a skywalk on Jin Mao Tower and set sail on a mesmerising evening cruise, floating past the city’s iconic skyline at sunset with a cocktail in hand.

Volcanic Iceland
Is thrill-seeking in your genes? Our five-day Iceland trip is the perfect itinerary for adventurous families who want to really get pulses racing. We’ll start relatively gently with a walking tour of Reykjavik, a visit to the epic waterfalls of Borgarfjörður and a soak in Krauma Geothermal Baths. Then things really ramp up with an incredible tour of the Golden Circle, followed by an unforgettable afternoon spent snowmobiling across an icy glacier – be sure to fuel up on geothermally baked bread at lunch. Our last full day will explore the southern regions, including black sand beaches and a thundering waterfall you can walk behind. We’ll head out on a challenging trek across the frozen glacial tongue of Sólheimajökull and toast our achievements with a bone-warming shot of whisky. Our final morning will be spent having a well-earned soak in the reinvigorating waters of the Blue Lagoon. Hopefully, at some point during our trip, you’ll have gotten the coolest family photo ever as the Northern Lights flourish above.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
